May 9th!!!

Page #1 of 2!

This morning Fr. Luke, a student of his, Fr. Richard, and I went to the Canons' Mass at 10:30 AM in Saint Peter's Basilica. The Canons are a group of priests who have the duty to sing Morning and Evening Prayer in the Basilica and to provide other pastoral services as may be necessary. Most of them looked rather elderly and so I suspect that in many ways being a Canon of Saint Peter's is a way of honoring someone for years of service elsewhere.

Anyway, after Mass we were in the Piazza for the Pope's Blessing. We actually left the Piazza moments before the Pope ended his remarks so that we could get to lunch before the tourists!

Pilgrims were already gathering for the Noon Blessing by the Pope at 9:00 AM!

This is an attempt at being artistic. I am looking through the colonnade towards the crowds in the piazza.

Though it is impossible to see him, the Pope is in the second window from the right on the top floor of the Apostolic Palace. A red banner is hanging from the window.

Here you can see some of the pilgrims who have come to the Piazza San Pietro for the Pope's blessing.

This is another view of the Pope and the Pilgrims.

And still another view of the same!

How's this for being touristy???

Pilgrims and tourists coming and going to and from the Home Office.
