May 11th!!!
Page #2 of 4!
The Basilica of Saint Mary of the Angels and the Martyrs was previously the Baths of Diocletian. |
This is the sanctuary of the Church of Santa Susanna, the American Parish Church in Rome. |
Santa Susana's ceiling. |
One of Santa Susana's side chapels. |
The wall paintings in Santa Susana are painted to look like they are cloth wall hangings. The artist was quite talented and creative, I think! |
This is Santa Susana's exterior. It is also a Cistercian Nuns Monastery Church. |
This is the Church of Saint Bernard, one of the early Cistercian abbots. |
Note the monk saying his prayers on the right of the picture. When he saw me, he was very gracious and come over, welcomed me, and told me some of the history of this church. He was perhaps the friendliest of the parish clergy I have seen in Rome. Many of them generally ignore all of the visiting priests. |
