May 10th!!!
Page #2 of 5!
This is St. John Baptist De La Salle's statue in the nave. When I was at the Brothers' motherhouse, they showed me a photo from the day when the statue was raised into this niche high above the floor. The sculptor left marble from De La Salle's arm to the shoulder of the student on his right. When the statue was in place, the sculptor went up and craved away the supporting bit of marble. |
This is some pope's funeral monument. |
Another papal funeral monument! |
The Pieta, again without millions of tourists around! Magnificent! |
Another look at the Nave of Saint Peter's! |
The Piazza San Pietro in the early morning. |
The red tile marks the spot where the car was in 1981 when Pope John Paul was shot during a Wednesday General Audience. It is on the right side of the Piazza as you look at the Basilica, near the front of the colonnade. |
The Swiss Guards hard at work controlling access to the Vatican City State. |
